Infection Causes Death of Former Atlantic Butcher. Had Been Ill for Last Four Months.
J. C. (Cal) Acker, former well known butcher here, died this morning at 3 o’clock in Des Moines where he had been living since leaving Atlantic some twenty years ago. Mr. Acker suffered blood poison in one of his fingers about four months ago, and the infection spread through his system, resulting in an abscess on his shoulder. This trouble was complicated by kidney ailments and it was necessary for Mr. Acker to undergo several operations. His brother Clell Acker, of this city, had been at his bedside for the last month.
Mr. Acker was the son of the late G. W. Acker of Atlantic and was formerly employed in the Ed F. Jones meat market here. He had been engaged in business in Des Moines a number of years and at the time of his death was operating a grocery store there.
Funeral Monday.
Besides his widow, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. E. Harris, of Atlantic, and six brothers. The brothers are Thad W. and Clell Acker of Atlantic, Jake and Ed Acker of Prescott, Charles Acker of Chicago, and Harry Acker, who lives in California. Two brothers are deceased. Mr. Acker was about 55 years old.
The body will be brought here Monday and funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home. Burial will be in the Atlantic cemetery.
