Edgar D. Acker, 85, Dies Today At Orient Home

Edgar D. Acker, 85, of Orient, former resident of Atlantic, died at 4 o’clock this morning at the Case nursing home, Orient, where he had resided since December, 1951. He had been in filing health several years.

Mr. Acker was born near Atlantic Sept. 10, 1868, the son of George S. and Elizabeth Gist Acker. He grew to manhood here and was engaged in construction work as a young man, later farming with his brother, Jake, near Prescott for a number of years. He resided in Fontanelle prior to going to the Orient nursing home two years ago.

Surviving are a brother, Charles H. Acker of Chicago and a number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by eight brothers, T. W. Acker, C. M. Acker, J. F. Acker, H. M. Acker, Walter S. Acker, J. C. Acker, G. C. Acker and Horace C. Acker and a sister, Mrs. E. E. Harris.

Funeral rites will be held at the Roland funeral home Monday afternoon at 1:30, the Rev. J. M. Steffenson officiating. The remains will be at the funeral home until the service hour and interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery.
