Richard Maurice “Dick” Malone, 83, of Atlantic died Monday Nov. 15, 1999, at his home. The son of Sylvester and Margaret Ellen Ruane Malone, Richard was born May 6, 1916, south of Atlantic. He lived south of Wiota and graduated from Wiota High School. He joined the United States Army in 1941, serving in Northern Ireland, England, France, Belgium, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. He was united in marriage to Eileen Brennan Aug. 3, 1945, in Brentwood Essex, England. Dick was employed by Sears as a salesman for 37 years, retiring in March of 1986. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church in Atlantic; Knights of Columbus; and a member of the V.F.W. Post 2704 in Omaha.

Surviving are his wife, Eileen Malone of Atlantic; one son, Dr. Bernard Malone of Blue Earth, Minn.; one daughter, Deedee Amdor and her husband, Jim, of Atlantic; four grandchildren: Myndi Van Voorst and her husband, Mike, of Tracy; Kelli Templeton and her husband, Travis, of Wiota; Nick Amdor of Council Bluffs; and Tony Amdor of Atlantic; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Francis Howard Malone; and a nephew, Harold Krohn.

Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m., at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic with Msgr. Lawrence Beeson officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery. There will be a military graveside service conducted by the Atlantic Veterans Color Guard. There will be a prayer service Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 6:30 p.m., at the Roland Funeral Home, followed by a visitation from 7 to 8 p.m.
