Eileen Malone

Eileen Malone, 86, of Atlantic, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at the Heritage House.

Malone was born June 28, 1919, in County Kerry, Ireland, to Patrick and Bridget (Sullivan) Brennan. She attended grade school and high school in Ireland and in 1937 moved to England. She met Richard M. Malone during WWII and on Aug. 3, 1945 they married in Essex, England. They moved to the Atlantic area shortly after they wed and lived there until 1970 when they moved to Omaha. From 1995 to 2005 they returned to Atlantic for their retirement years.

After leaving Ireland, Eileen worked as a secretary in a medical office before she joined the WACs. She was in the British Woman Air Corp from 1941 to 1945 and was stationed in Bristol, England during WWII flying anti-aircraft balloons.

While in Atlantic, Eileen served on the Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Eileen’s favorite time was with family. She loved the grandkids and the many little great-grandkids. She enjoyed hearing of their adventures.

During her lifetime she was a homemaker, always there, always patient. She had many friends, especially the other British war brides, who were a big part of her life. “Tea Time” was very important to her, a time to visit and share. She continued this up to her death. She left part of her heart in Ireland, leaving there for America and a new life. She never forgot it, visiting numerous times and always in contact with her family. “Erin Go Braugh” (Ireland forever).

Eileen is survived by a son, Dr. Bernard Malone of Blue Earth, Minn.; a daughter DeeDee and her husband, Jim Amdor of Atlantic; four grandchildren, Myndi and her husband, Mike Van Voorst of Pella, Kellie Templeton of Atlantic, Nick, and his wife Leslie, Amdor of Carson, Tony Amdor of Atlantic; seven great-grandchildren, Brennan, Bailey and Kieran Van Voorst, Logan and Emma Templeton, Ashlynn and Elyssa Amdor; a brother, Mikal Brennan and a sister, Nora King, both of Ireland; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Bridget; her husband, Dick; a brother, John Brennan; three sisters, Bridie Hopsen, Mary O’Connell and Margaret Heard.

Funeral services for Eileen will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 7, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic,, with Father Dan Siepker and Msgr. Lawrence Beeson officiating. A scripture wake service will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday with family . . . [NOTE: Remainder of obituary missing from this clipping/scan].
