JOHN D. PETERSON OF ANITA PASSES AWAY LAST NIGHT

Was Widely Known Farmer and Member of Thirty fifth General Assembly of Iowa.

John D. Peterson, 74, prominent retired Cass farmer and member of the thirty-fifth general assembly from this county, died last evening at 8:30 at the family home on Rose Hill avenue, Anita. Mr. Peterson had been in failing health the last several years and critically ill for some weeks. Death was due to a complication of liver ailments.

Born in Adams County.

Mr. Peterson was 74 years, 5 months and 29 days old. He was born, at Mount Etna in Adams county and came to Cass in 1878, locating at Marne, where he lived until moving to Anita in 1906. He was married to Mary Jane Berry, daughter of the late John W. Berry, who was widely known in this community, in 1880, the marriage taking place at Marne. Mr. Peterson served in the Iowa legislature as representative from Cass county during 1913 and 1914.

Surviving are the widow and seven children. The children are Mrs. Gertie Turner of Anita, Ross F. Peterson of Dendrum, Minn., J. H.[R.] Peterson of Oakland, Cal., Cecil D. Peterson of Honolulu, T. H., G. L. Peterson of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Mayme Schaake of Corning and Mrs. Leola McLennon of Des Moines. All of the children except J. R. Peterson of Oakland, Cal., and Cecil D. Peterson of Honolulu were at their father’s bedside before his death. The latter two will be unable to attend funeral services. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson recently returned from California, where they spent the winter.

Funeral Friday.

One sister, Mrs. Fannie Prathem lives in Atlantic. There are two other sisters and two brothers. They are Mrs. Anna Ramsey of Creighton, Mo., and Mrs. Mary Perry of Mount Etna, S. F. Peterson of Lindsey, Cal., and Dr. R. F. Peterson of Emporia, Kas. W. B. and R. A. Berry of this city are brothers-in-law of Mr. Peterson

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Anita Congregational church and burial will be in the Brighton cemetery near Marne. The Rev. C. E. Cushman of Iowa Falls, formerly pastor of Anita Congregational church, will officiate.
