W. B. Berry Dies At Home Here Today

William Baxter Berry, 87, Atlantic retired farmer, died at 6:45 this morning at his home, 701 Cedar street. He had been in failing health six years.

Mr. Berry was born at Monard [Menard], Ill. Nov. 23, 1863, The son of John W. and Harriett Bell Berry and came with his parents to a farm four miles southwest of Marne in February, 1867. He and Mary Burkey were married Feb. 21, 1894, at the Burkey home near Walnut, and they farmed six miles west of Atlantic until moving to Atlantic in 1926. He was a member to the Methodist church.

Surviving besides the widow are a son, D. Ray Berry of Atlantic; a daughter, Mrs. Ed Warren of Atlantic; as sister Mrs. Iona Dunham of Burbank, Cal., and a grandson, Donald Berry of Limon, Colo. He was preceded in death by a daughter, who died in infancy; four sisters, Mrs. Sherman Peterson, Mrs. John Peterson, Mrs. J. B. Burkey and Miss Edith Berry and a brother, Clarence Berry.

The Rev. A. D. Steffenson will officiate at funeral services at 2 p.m Thursday at the Methodist church. The remains will be taken from the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home to the family home Wednesday noon. Interment will be in Brighton cemetery north of Marne.

ATLANTIC – Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Atlantic Methodist church for William Bax er [Baxter] Berry, 87, retired farmer. The Rev. A. D. Stefnefson [Steffenson] will officiate.

Berry died Tuesday morning at his home in Atlantic. Born in Illinois, he came to a farm 4 miles southwest of Marne with his parents when he was 4.

Surviving are his widow, Mary; a son, D. Ray of Atlantic; as daughter, Mrs. Ed Warren of Atlantic; as sister, Mrs. Iona Dunham of Burbank, Calif.; and a grandson.

Burial will be in Brighton cemetery north of Marne.
