Marie E. Harris, 92 of Atlantic, died Friday, Oct. 4 at the Atlantic Care Center. She was a resident of 404 E. Fourth Street. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic with the Rev. Robert (Bob) Smith of the Buck Creek Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
The daughter of James Ora and Elenora Laura Hansen Berry, she was born Aug. 31, 1904 west of Atlantic and attended Atlantic schools. She was married to G. Leo Harris on Feb. 15, 1924 in Atlantic. Following marriage, they farmed in Pymosa Township from 1934 until 1953, when he passed away, then she moved to Atlantic in 1956. She was a cook at the Elks Club in Atlantic, retiring in the mid-60s. She was a member of the Buck Creek Methodist Church and Atlantic Does.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Delbert Phillip (Duds) Berry; and Ralph Anderson Berry; and a sister, Jessie F. Brown.
Surviving are a daughter, Jarine Highley of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a son James E. Harris and wife Kay of rural Atlantic; four granddaughters, Kimberly Highley, Tami Gaston and husband James, all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Shannon Mayes and husband Robert of Dallas, Texas; and Lori Harris and fiance Dave Riedeman of Griswold; three grandsons, Kipp Harris and wife Lori; Kelly Harris and wife Debbie, all of Atlantic; and Kory Harris and wife Teresa of Marne; a nephew, James O. (J.O.) Berry and wife Verdean of Atlantic; five great-grandchildren, Nick; Haley; Brian; Jeff; and Heather Harris; two great-nieces, Jodene Berry Crandall; and Shelby Berry.
