Native of Illinois and Prominent and Long Time Resident in Cass to Be Buried Here.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 at the Presbyterian church here for Argyle Franklin Berry, pioneer Cass resident who died yesterday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of his son, George W. Berry, 600 East Fourth street after a lingering illness. The Rev. William Mack will officiate and interment will be made in the Atlantic cemetery. Six nephews of the deceased will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Berry was born March 19, 1840, in Menard county, Ill., the son of James and Jane O. Berry, who moved from Tennessee to Illinois in 1828. Mr. Berry’s mother was a sister of Ann Rutledge, whose death was one of the most tragic events in the life of Abraham Lincoln, then her sweetheart. The Berry home was near that of Lincoln at Salem, Ill.
To Cass in 1881.
Mr. Berry was married to Nancy Helen Hudspeth Nov. 27, 1862, and lived on the home farm until moving to Cass county in 1881. The family lived on a farm in this county until moving to Atlantic in 1910. Mrs. Berry died Feb. 27, 1913.
Surviving are four children, George W. Berry of this city, Argyle Franklin Berry Jr., of Massena, Sarah Lutitia Trailer of Washington Springs, S. D., and Edward Anderson Berry of Tacoma, Wash. One son died in infancy. Six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
