FUDGE FUNERAL SERVICES SUNDAY

Rites for Pioneer Settler in Cass at Presbyterian Church

Funeral services for Martin S. Fudge, 82, Cass pioneer who died at his home, 810 Maple street, yesterday morning at 11 o’clock after an illness of several weeks with complications, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the First Presbyterian church, the Rev. William Mack officiating. Burial will be in the Brighton cemetery near Marne.

Mr. Fudge, the son of William and Elizabeth Fudge, was born June 17, 1846, in Abington, Washington county, Va. He came with his parents to Illinois where they resided for five years and then moved to Iowa in 1854, settling in Monroe county. In 1870 he came from Monroe to Cass county and entered the employ of the late John Roush in the flour mill in Lewis, hauling flour to Atlantic and Council Bluffs. The following spring he returned to Jasper county, remaining there until 1872, when he returned to Cass county lived here for many years, later purchasing a farm in Shelby county, where he resided for seventeen years. Upon his retirement from the farm, he moved to Harlan, living there until his removal to Atlantic in October, 1927.

Two sons.

He was married at Beloit, Kans., Sept. 10, 1874, to Melvina Beath, who, with two sons, survives. One son, Clarence, died at the age of 5. The surviving sons are Justice Fudge of Lorimor and M. A. Fudge of Atlantic.

There are three half-brothers and two half-sisters surviving also, together with eleven grandchildren. The half-brothers are J. O. Fudge Sr. of Atlantic, David Fudge of Madrid, Neb., and O. E. Fudge of Idaho Falls, Ida., and the half-sisters are Mrs. Andrew Sarsfield and Mrs. Al T. Smith of Atlantic.
