Atfer [After] an illness of about two weeks duration, the cause of which was a stroke of apoplexy, two recurrences of which she suffered, the third one shortly before she died, Mrs. J. W. Butler died at eleven o’clock last night at her home north of the city. It was known for some days that she could not recover and her family was prepared for the end when it came. The deceased was a widely known and respecte [respected] lady and her death will be widely mourned in this section. She and her husband have lived in this county nearly forty-two years on the place where she died and on November 15th of last year celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, having been married near Winchester, Ind., on the 15th of November, 1860, the marriage taking place where both of them were born. Mrs. Butler was born on the 15th of January, 1840, and was the daughter of Zebelin Edwards and Sarah McNeil Edwards, the former a native of North Carolina and the latter a native of Indiana. They came to this county in the fall of 1869 and as stated, have lived since on the farm where Mrs. Butler passed away last night.

The deceased lady leaves her husband, five children, five brothers and one sister and fourteen grand children. The children are Mrs. Belle Ringle, wife of G. W. Ringle of this city; Edgar O. Butler of this city; John B. Butler, north of the city; Emmett Butler of Washington township, and Bert L. Butler, employed in the Johnson clothing store. The grand children are Vesta and Vere Ringle, children of G. W. Ringle and wife; Gerald, Emma and Wilma Butler, children of E. O. Butler and wife; Guy, Myrtle, Opal, Dale and Thelma Butler, children of J. B. Butler and wife; Miriam, Beulah and Pauline, children of Emmett Butler and wife, and Alethia, the little daughter of Bert Butler and wife. Her five brothers live in Indiana and her sister, Mrs. S. B. Mills, in this city.

She was a life time member of the M. E. church, a Christian woman in all that the term implies and her life was lived in accord with the teachings of the doctrine she espoused.

The funeral services are to be held at eleven o’clock Saturday morning at the Buck Creek church and the interment made in the Atlantic cemetery.
