The Rev. Fred Malone, 62, of Hinton, formerly of Atlantic, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the United Methodist Church in Hinton, with the Rev. Dr. Arnold Herbst and the Rev. Darline Balm-Demmel officiating. Interment will be at 4 p.m. in the Atlantic City Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Malone, Carl Malone, Ray Vawter, Rev. Dick Steffens, John Voortman, and John Newman.

Charles Fredrick Malone was born June 14, 1936, in Atlantic to Claude R. and Florence (Durr) Malone. He grew up in the Atlantic area, graduated from Atlantic High School in 1954 and was untied in marriage to Sara Vawter Sept. 22, 1957, in Atlantic.

He received further education at Iowa Western Community College, Iowa State University, and St. Paul School of Theology.

While in Atlantic, Rev. Malone was a third generation partner in Malone Seed Company here for many years.

In 1980 he became an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. He had served as co-pastor at churches in New Market, Guss, Shambaugh and Braddyville from 1981 to 1988.

From 1988 to 1995 he served congregations at the Farmington United Methodist Church and the Bonaparte United Church. Rev. Malone was presently serving the Merrill First United Methodist Church and Adaville United Methodist Church.

While living in Atlantic, he had served as president of the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce and Atlantic Optimist Club. He was always active in the communities in which he and Sara had lived.

He had served as a master sergeant with the Iowa National Guard for several years, was past president of the Iowa Seed Dealers Association, and had served on the Board of Iowa Feed and Grain.

Surviving are his wife, the Rev. Sara Malone of Hinton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Judy Malone of Ontario, Canada, Chris and Dee Malone of Sterling, Neb.; a daughter, Catie Malone of Merrill;

Also surviving are his mother, Florence Malone of Watseka, Ill.; a brother and sister-in-law, Drs. Carl P. and June Malone of New Berlin, Wis.; four grandsons, Curtis Malone of Iowa City; Colby, Connor and Ceaton Malone of Sterling, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his father, Claude R. Malone.

A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society or the Siouxland Cancer Center.
