WARDEN ELLIOTT, EDISON RELATIVE, DIES SUDDENLY

Proprietor of Park Hotel Had Just Returned from Meeting Body of John Moreland At R. I. Station.

News of the sudden death of Warden B. Elliott spread like wildfire over the city at noon today. At 10 o’clock he was at the depot to meet the train [?bringing] the body of John E. Moreland. At 12 o’clock he was dead.

He was a relative of Thomas A. Edison, the famous inventor. Mrs. S. Weaver, who died a short time ago here, was a cousin of Mr. Edison and an aunt of Mr. Elliott.

This morning he arose as usual, went to the desk at the hotel and made inquiries in regard to some outgoing mail. A few minutes later he walked to the depot. After some time he returned to the hotel and lay down. He complained about being sick and Mrs. Elliott called a doctor. After a short conference the doctor prepared to leave but stopped to talk outside a minute. He was called back to the room and found Mr. Elliott drawing his last breath.

In 1869 he came to Cass county, living on a farm until 1893, when he came to Atlantic and took possession of the Occidental hotel, which he operated for one year. In July of 1894 he went to Maryville, Mo., engaging in the hotel business there until his return here in 1897 when he purchased the Park hotel.
