Mrs. Dan Maher, 91, a resident of Dell Rapids for nearly 50 years, died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Huss Thursday, July 30. Solemn Requiem high mass was held Monday in St. Mary's Catholic church with the Rev. Clarence Trautner officiating assisted by the Rev. K. C. Kucin and the Rev. Robert Spethman. Interment took place in St. Mary's cemetery with Hermanson's in charge. Pallbearers were Jack Majeres, Leavern Krier, Norman Hauglid, Elmer Brown, Vernon Huss and Fred Schmidt.
Julia G. Malone daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Malone, early Cass county pioneers, was born Jan. 6, 1873 in Atlantic, Iowa. Her girlhood years were spent in this community with her five brothers and five sisters. On Feb. 19, 1901 she was married to Dan J. Maher in Reno, Iowa. Two sons and two daughters were born to this union. In 1907 they moved to Alexandria, S. D., And resided here until 1915. This year they retired from the farm and moved to Dell Rapids to a home on the property now occupied by Sam LeBrun. In 1940 they moved to a home on 8th St., which she retained until a little over a year ago when she went to make her home with her daughter, after being stricken by the illness which caused her death.
Mrs. Maher was a devout an active member of St. Mary's Parish and the Altar Society and participated in church activities to a great extent.
Two sons and a daughter preceded her in death and her husband also preceded her in death in 1955. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Melvin Huss (Cecilia) and a grandson Danny Mel Huss, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
