Funeral services for Robert Karas, age 85, of Bedford, who died Thursday,
February 9, 2006, at the Clearview Home in Clearfield, after a 33 year battle with
Parkinson, were held Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastors Rick
Titus and Ryan Leininger officiating at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox.
Lunch followed the services at the Lenox American Legion Hall. Interment was held at
the Massena Center Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Memorials can be directed to Hospice or to
Creston Respite. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of
Lenox.
Robert Richard Karas was born August 1, 1920, in Massena, Iowa. He was one
of eight children born to Otto Karas and Edna (Harris) Karas. On October 12,1946,
he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Titus. To this loving union one son, Larry Robert
was born. Last October, Robert and Betty celebrated their 59th Wedding
Anniversary.
Robert and Betty lived and farmed in the Massena and Bedford, Iowa areas.
Robert enjoyed farming, fishing and mountain vacations. During his lifetime,
he made many, friends and helped many others. He was known to leave his own
work to go and help others. Robert had a wonderful sense of humor and, was always more
than willing to pull a prank on anyone he thought needed it! He was a very kind loving
and compassionate man who was a wonderful husband and father, Robert battled his
Parkinson's Disease for 33 years with dignity and honor. Betty lovingly cared for him in
their home for many years and when it was time to move him into the nursing home, she
daily saw to his needs there as well.
Left to cherish Robert's memory are his loving wife Betty Karas of Clearfield; his son
Larry Karas and Nancy of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren, Shane Karas and Erin of
Indianola; Korbi and Bob Munoz of Indianola; Gentry and Chad Burton of New Virginia;
and Blake and Anyta Karas of Indianola; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents, Otto and Edna; three brothers, Gilbert,
Frank and Elwin; and four sisters, Bessie, Mabel, Alice and Leona.
