John R. Roots Of Lewis Dies At Home There, John R. Roots, 77, retired farmer and carpenter, died Saturday evening at 6:15 at his home in Lewis.
He was born May 1, 1884. in Shelby co. the son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Roots and was married to Minnie Christensen at Barryville, MO., Oct. 30, 1924. He lived for a number of years in the Massena vicinity prior to moving to Anita in 1945 until he had resided in Lewis since September, 1958. He was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Clark of Hastings and Mrs. Opal Kramer of Atlantic; a son, Gail Roots of Lewis; a stepson, Glen Christensen of Lewis, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Earl Roots; a brother, Sam Roots and a sister, Mrs. Ida Garside. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Roland funeral home, the Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Lewis.
