Evelyn (Effie) Ballensiefer Burke

Mrs. ERNEST BURKE, 59, a well known resident of Anita died at her home on West Main street Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Burke had been in poor health for some time and had been at the Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs until just a short time before her death and had received blood transfusions, but she steadily grew worse and wanted to return to her home where her family and sisters cared for her during her last illness.

EFFIE BALLENSIEFER, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. AUGUST BALLENSIEFER was born January 17th, 1889 near Wiota, Iowa. She grew to young womanhood in that community attending the rural schools and on January 10th was united in marriage to Mr. ERNEST BURKE at the St. Joseph Catholic church in Wiota with the Rev. DANIEL MCALLISTER officiating.

Following the marriage the young couple went to housekeeping on a farm east of Anita. In 1917, they retired and moved to the home on West Main Street.

Mrs. Burke took an active part in her church and its organizations, her home and family and at one time belonged to a number of social clubs of the community.

She is survived by her husband and two sons RAYMOND of Harlan, and GAIL of Anita, there are seven grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. MILT BRUNER and Mrs. LENA EARL and three brothers WILLIAM, EDWARD, and HENRY BALLENSIEFER all of near Wiota.
