Anton Henry Sporleder—Mr. Anton Henry Sporleder, son of Fred and Franziska Sporleder, nee Werner, was born at Manhattan, Will County, Illinois, July 28, 1881. He was baptized September 4, 1881 by the Rev. H. Friedemeier. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1883, residing on a farm in Grant Township, Carroll County. Following due instruction in matters of the Lutheran faith, he was confirmed by the Rev. Andrew Mueller at Lidderdale in the year 1895. On February 22, 1905, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Pluckhahn, the vows being exchanged at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Carroll, the Rev. C. F. Luebker officiating. This marriage was blessed with five children, three of whom survive. Mr. Sporleder was member of the Lutheran Church having received his education in Lutheran and rural schools. He and his family united with the St. John’s American Lutheran Church of Grant Township January 22, 1939 of which church he was an active member. Mr. and Mrs. Sporleder observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary in February of this year and also had a brief anniversary service as a part of the Sunday’s Service on March 6th. Mr. Sporleder farmed in Grant Township until the year 1947 when they retired to Glidden. His health began to fail about two years ago and he required hospitalization several times. His physical condition appeared to be fair for the last few months, but he passed away at the home of his son, Mr. Erwin (Ervin) Sporleder, early Tuesday morning, September 27 following a heart attack. He attained the age of 74 years and two months. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a daughter. Those who survive and mourn his passing include his wife, Mrs. Anna Sporleder; three sons, Mr. Carl Sporleder, Lake City; Mr. Erwin (Ervin) Sporleder, Glidden; and Mr. Lawrence Sporleder, Carroll. Also 12 grandchildren; one brother; Mr. Arnold Sporleder, Lidderdale and one sister, Mrs. John (Anna) Kurth, Sheridan Township. A host of other relatives and many friends are saddened at the passing of Mr. Sporleder out this life.
