Manning – A long-time Manning resident, Mrs. Bertha Martens, 85, died Monday morning, February 17, at the Manning General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 19, 11:00 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor E. F. Heinicke officiating. Burial will be at Manning Cemetery, with Ohde Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bearers will be Harold Ruhde, A. W. Martens, Lester Karsten, Walter Martens, Delbert Inez and Irwin Witt.

Mrs. Martens was born April 5, 1883 at Davenport, to Wilhelm and Johanna Claussen Ruhde. They lived in Davenport only a short time before moving to Manning.

She was married to Henry Martens on February 20, 1907, and they resided in Manning all their married life. They were the parents of two sons, Edwin and Orville.

Survivors include a son, Orville of Omaha, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Karsten of Manning.

Preceding her in death were her husband, a son Edwin, two brothers, Peter and William Ruhde, and two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Hinz and Mrs. Rose York.
