Manning – Arthur August Lerssen, 73, of Manning died Sunday afternoon, July 23 at the Manning General Hospital following a long illness.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manniing where friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday. The rev. George McMullen, Pastor of the United Methodist Church in Irwin, will officiate. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Lerssen was born Sept. 4, 1898 at Bennett and at the age of nine moved to South Dakota with his parents Henry and Katie (Schwietzer) Lerssen. He married the former Melinda Erps.
He farmed at Olivet, S.D., from Aug. 8, 1923 until moving to Iowa in 1935 where he farmed near Manning. In 1944 he moved to Manning and worked at Dultmeier Manufactuing Company. He operated the Manning Hotel from 1946 until 1968.

Surviving with his wife are three children: Mrs. Maurice (Loretta) Friedman of Templeton’ Mrs. David (Beverly) Grumdmeier of Manning and Donal of Manning; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Emil (Matte) Erps of Scotland, S. D. One brother preceded him in death in infancy.
