Manning - Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Massen, 64, of Manning, were held Monday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, at the Ohde Funeral Home, with the Rev. E. G. Otte of the Mapleton Evangelical Reformed Church officiating.

Ray Pratt sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Going Home,” accompanied by Mrs. H. W. Hagedorn.

Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Mrs. Massen was taken suddenly ill at her home near here the afternoon of Oct. 28. She died several hours later at the Manning hospital.

Alma Dorothea Bartels, daughter of Henry and Minnie Bartels, was born April 13, 1890 in Washington Township. She was married to Fred E. Massen Nov. 22, 1910 at Manning. She had lived in this vicinity all her life, with the exception of two years at Westside.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter Mrs. John (Laddean) McClellan of Denison, a son, Donald of Manning; five grandchildren: Jobe and Alla Marie McClellan, Dennis, David and Douglas Maasen, and a great-grandchild, Jobe Dean MClellan of Dennison.

She also leaves three brothers: George Bartals, Atchinson, Kansas; Henry and Grover Bartels, Manning, and three sisters: Mrs. Lena Junger, Waterloo; Miss Emma Bartels, Omaha; and Mrs. Gertrude Stuhr, Manning.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Mrs. Esther Kelley.
