A funeral service for Averill Oren Vinke of Carroll will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. Mr. Vinke, 85, former of Denison, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Carroll Health Center. Pastor Carl Noble will officiate the service. Casket bearers will be Leon Schulte, Gary Schulte, Dennis Backhaus, Merlin Brockman, Harold McLaughlin and Jack Weighton. Honorary casket bearers will be Robert Georgius, Jerry Conlin, and Roger Georgius. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Born Jan 1, 1914 in Hayes Township, Crawford County, he was a son of Detelef and Meta (Joachimsen) Vinke. He attended rural school through eighth grade then went to Manning High School for two years. He then worked for area farmers. He and Hilda Jensen were married March 10, 1938, at the Lutheran Church in Denison. The Vinkes farmed near Botna, Manilla, Gray then Westside. They stopped farming in 1977 but continued to reside on the farm near Westside. They moved to Denison in 1992. Mr. Vinke moved to the Health Center in May 1996. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, a lifetime member of the Hayes Township Schuetzen Verein and he enjoyed fishing, traveling and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Hilda, of Denison; two sons: Adrian Vinke and his wife, Joan, of Omaha, Neb.; and Gerald Vinke and his wife, Michelle, of Morehead City, N. C.; a daughter, Jeanine Vinke, of Denison; four grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Delbert Vinke, and his wife, Odessa, of Manning; two sisters and their husbands: Lois and Floyd Drake of Audubon and Laverne and Pete Petersen of Mason City; and three sisters-in-law: Clarice Jansen and her husband, Alvin, of Aspinwall, Irene Jansen of Manning and Loretta Vinke of Manning. Mr. Vinke was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dennis, in infancy; and a brother Ralph Vinke.
