Manning – Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Katherine Genzen, 88, of Manning were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Rev. Edward F. Heinicke officiating. Mrs. Genzen died at the Manning General Hospital here on Friday.

Pallbearers were all grandsons. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery under the direction of the Ohde Funeral Home, Manning.

Mrs. Genzen, daughter of Claus and Anna Schweiso Grimm, was born on June 18, 1888 in Hayes Township, Crawford County. Her marriage to Albert Genzen took place in 1909. They settled at Haverhill. They managed the Fairmont Dairy for three years. Then they farmed in Marshall County and moved back to the Manning area to farm in 1915 where they farmed until the death of her husband in 1947.

Following his death, she moved into Manning and resided at the Terrace Apartments where she had lived at the present time. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Manning and the Ladies Aid of the Church.

Surviving are the following children: Lester of Manilla, Virgil of Manning, Mrs. Odessa Vinke of Manning, Ivan of Manilla, Mrs. LaVonne Gehlsen of Westside, Mrs. Lucille Pfannkuch of Manning and Robert of Bloomington, Ill. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Anna Ewoldt of Manilla; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Florence Grimm and Mrs. Caroline Grimm, both of Manning; 23 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Elmer and Arthur, four brothers and three sisters.
