July 10, 1924 - Glidden Graphic

The sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Thomas Hunter, Friday, July 4th, was a great shock to her many friends, and especially to her daughter, Mrs. L. J. Jacobus, with whom she has been making her home for the past few years.

Mrs. Hunter has been in her usual health, which of course, was not of the best on account of advanced years, but the family had no reason to fear the sudden end which came as the family were proceeding with their usual work. When Mrs. Jacobus went to the house she missed her mother from the accustomed place on the porch and found her nearby, dead. She had expired but a few minutes before the time she was found.

The following obituary was read at the services:

Mary Marie Wright was born in Oswego, New York, Aug. 5, 1842. When a small child, she moved with her parents to Little Rock, Ill., where ***(transcribers note: lines are missing here)*** this union, two sons were born, Gene Park, who lives at Greten, S.D., and Verne Park, who lives at Rochelle, Ill. Her husband was a soldier for the union in the war of '61 to '65, and contracted disease of which he died in 1868. On July 5, 1870, she was united in marriage to Thomas Hunter. To this union two daughters were born, Grace Jean Jacobus, of Glidden, and Jeanette Orill, who died 10 years ago.

Mr. Hunter died in 1892, and she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Jacobus, where on July 4, she passed away.

When but a child Mrs. Hunter professed saving faith in Jesus Christ her savior and united with the M.E. church and lived a faithful and consistent life until the end. She was a charter member of the Glidden church. She was also a charter member of the woman's relief corps.

The funeral was held from the home of her daughter Sunday, conducted by Rev. D. H. Howry. Burial in the Glidden cemetery.
