Death Claims Aged Butte Lady Monday –
Mrs. Tiefenthaler, 90, Passes Away After Long Illness; Services Wednesday

Mrs. Catherine Tiefenthaler passed away Monday evening at the age of 89 years, 7 months, 2 days, after having been bed-fast for nearly two years with a complication of diseases.

She was born in Germany on May 29, 1844, and there she was married to Martin Tiefenthaler. Later they came to the United States, moving to Halbur, Iowa, where Mr. Tiefenthaler engaged in the carpenter business.

In 1906 they moved to Boyd County and lived in Butte until 1920 when they returned to Iowa. There Mr. Tiefenthaler passed away in March, 1923. Eight years later, Mrs. Tiefenthaler returned to Butte and has since made her home with her daughters, Mrs. Koenig and Mrs. Alfred Derner. She had been at the Derner home for some time before her death.

Services were held from St. Peter’s & Paul’s church in Butte at 7 o’clock Wednesday morning, and the remains were taken to Halbur, Iowa, where another service was to be held and interment made.

She is survived by three sons, Joe and John of Butte and Anton of Halbur, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Catherine Derner and Mrs. Elizabeth Koenig of Butte, Mrs. Mary Sondergroth of Bonesteel and Mrs. Clara Wittrock of Halbur, Iowa; forty-one grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Among those who went to Halbur, Iowa, Wednesday for the burial, were Mr and Mrs. John Tiefenthaler, Mr and Mrs. Joe Tiefenthaler, Sr., Mr and Mrs. Peter Koenig, Mrs. Alfred Derner and son, Alfred, Joseph Tiefenthaler, Jr., and Mr and Mrs. Theo. Sondergroth of Bonesteel.

We extend the sympathy of the entire community to the relatives who are left to mourn the passing of their mother and grandmother.
