Services for Jessie Peckham - Coon Rapids Enterprise, Thursday, October 5, 1989

Funeral services were held for Jesse Shirbroun Peckham Tuesday, September 26, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Coon Rapids. Reverend Glenda Dietrich officiated at the services. Music was provided by Lois Shirbroun and Eileen Olson.

Casket bearers were Neal Shirbroun, Dewain Shirbroun, Darrell Shirbroun, Dale Shirbroun, Joe Shirbroun and Ronald Carlson. Interment was in the Orange Township Cemetery, Coon Rapids.

Jessie, daughter of Franklin and Mary Jane Beatty Shirbroun, was born March 26, 1908 in Orange Township, Guthrie County, Iowa. She was graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1925 and attended College at Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls. At an early age Jessie joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church south of Coon Rapids. Her church was an important part of Jessie's life.

Jessie taught rural schools near Coon Rapids and later in the Coon Rapids Community School System. For a short time she served as a house mother and teacher at a boys school near Des Moines. Jessie also was willing and able to help her family in times of need, when a baby was expected or when there was a sickness. On March 31, 1960 Jessie was united in marriage with Rev. Keith Peckam at Oshkosh, WI. She spent her married life in Wisconsin where she was a member of the Free Methodist Church at Richland Center. After Mr. Peckham died in 1985, Jessie returned to Coon Rapids and made her home at the Thomas Rest Haven. She died there early Sunday morning, September 24, 1989 at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 29 days.

Besides her husband, Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, and by the following brothers: Charles, Fred, Raleigh, George, and Perry Shirbroun. She is survived by three brothers and one sister: Frank Shirbroun, of Coon Rapids; Mildred Carlson, of Webb, Iowa; Henry Shirbroun, of Coon Rapids and Emmett Shirbroun, of Joshua Tree, California; and by four stepchildren: Crystal Peckham, Richland Center, WI; Beatrice Jewett, Janesville, WI; Genevieve Flowers and Maynard Peckham of Mobile, AL; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
