Mr. Peter J. Paulsen was born in Germany in the providence of Schleswig , Holstein, April 7, 1848. He grew up in his native land, and at the age of 24 he came to the United States, settling in Page County, IA. After three years of residence of this county, the deceased came to Scott County, Iowa, living for some years near Davenport, then awhile near O'Brien Co. Iowa. He was married March 17, 1880 to Miss Katherina Sievers. In the year 1895, he moved the family to Missouri, locating near Halfway, Polk County, and then for a short time he lived in northwestern Missouri, near Maryville, after which he returned to Iowa and settled in Audubon County. Then, with his family, he relocated some six miles southeast of Manning, Carroll County. This was in the year 1898, and for the last seventeen years this has been his home. He reared a large family, three sons and five daughters; all of whom, together with the wife and mother, survive as mourners upon this sad occasion. The children are all married except two, and with their wives and husbands are as follows: Henry, married to Miss Eveline Hass; Mary, married to Mr. Frank Stahmer; Peter, married to Miss Cora Weaver; Charley and Amanda remain single. There are fourteen grandchildren.
The deceased was a prosperous and thrifty farmer upright in all his ways holding the high esteem of his neighbors and friends. He was a loving husband and a kind father and reared a family that is a credit to any community. His church affiliations were with the Lutheran Church. He was a man of unusual vigor until recently when that dread malady, cancer, fastened itself upon his vitals. Every effort was made to secure relief, even to the surgeon's knife, but to no avail, he passed away in the hospital at Carroll, Iowa after an operation, living but two days. He passed on March 26, 1915, aged 66 years, 11 months and 19 days. Services were held at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Wendt of Manilla and Rev. Aller officiating,
