Mrs. Catherine M. Paulsen, nee Sievers, was born May 28, 1863, in Bergenhusen Province, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evan. Lutheran Church Germany. She came to America with her parents in 1879, who settled in Scott County, Iowa. She was united in Holy Matrimony with Mr. Peter Paulsen, March 17, 1880, in Scott County. Both made their home near Davenport for some years and later near O' Brien Co., Iowa. In 1895 they moved to Halfway, Polk County, Missouri, and somewhat later to Maryville, Missouri. They returned to Iowa In 1898 and located 6 miles southeast of Manning. Here they lived for the past 17 years. Mr. Paulsen preceded his wife in death in 1915.

Their union was blessed with eight children, 3; sons and 5 daughters, namely: Henry Peter, Mrs. Mary NewelI, Mrs. Emma Borkowski, Mrs. Kate Musfeldt, Mrs. Alvena Stahmer Strive, all of Manning; and Charles Paulsen of Gordon, Nebraska; and Mrs. Amanda Gebers of Holstein.

The deceased suffered from Bright's disease and kidney disease and it's complications for the last fifteen years. She was bedridden during the last five weeks of her life and received best care during her long illness.

She died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, August 16, 1921 at Holstein at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Gebers, at the age of 58 years, 2 months and 18 days.

She leaves to mourn her death: her 3 sons and 5 daughters, with 19 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; also, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Dr. Hans Salvers, Tama; John SIevers, Scott County, Iowa; Henry Lackmann, Independence, Iowa; Mrs. Peter Friedricksen, Holstein, and Mrs. Henry Schmidt, Scott Co., Iowa.

Funeral services were Wednesday at 9:30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gerbers Jr. The remains were then taken to Manning for burial in the family grave, after. Funeral services were held by Rev. J. Schliepsick in the Ev. Lutheran Ch. at Manning. Rev. B. Langkammerer officiated in Holstein.
