April 7, 1947 - Carroll Times - Mrs. John Conway, who had lived in Carroll since she came here as a bride 63 years ago, died at her home on North Court street at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. She was 80 years old.

Mrs. Conway had been in declining health the last three months. Saturday noon she suddenly became seriously ill. Two hours later, death claimed her in her sleep.

Funeral services will be at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning at St. Joseph's church, with the Rt. Rev. Monsignor P.T. Lynch offering the requiem mass. Burial will be in the family lot in the parish cemetery. The body is resting at the family home, 821 North Court street, having been returned there from the Sharp Funeral home yesterday afternoon. The rosary, led by Monsignor Lynch, will be recited at Mrs. Conways family home at 8 o'clock tonight.

Mrs. Conway was the last of a family of five children of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Reynolds. A native Iowan, she was born Catherine Reynolds at Dubuque July 17, 1867.

She married Mr. Conway at Dubuque August 22, 1883. Immediately after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Conway came to Carroll to make their home. Mr. Conway, who was in the transfer business here, also served as chief of police for a number of years. He died in November, 1922.

Surviving Mrs. Conway are one son, Henry J., city councilman and transfer line operator, three daughters, Elvena and Grace, at home, and Mrs. Harry Laurinat (Marie) of Carroll, and one grandchild, Connie Lou Laurinat.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Conway was preceded in death by two sons, Fred, in infancy, and John. May 21, 1921. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.

In point of years of membership, Mrs. Conway was one of the oldest members of St. Joseph's church, which she joined soon after coming to Carroll. She also belonged to the Christian Mothers sodality of the parish.
