Feb 1, 1936 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. Catherine Bowler, 75, resident of Carroll for many years, passed away at 8:45 o'clock last night at the Bowler home on North Maple street. She had been in failing health for several months, but lately seemed to be some what better. She was able to be up a little Sunday and even Tuesday night the family did not realize her condition was critical.

The body will be taken to the home tomorrow from the Gregory morning at the St Joseph church, Very Rev P.T. Lynch will read. Funeral services will be held Saturday, the requiem mass and interment will be made in the parish cemetery. Pall bearers will be T.J. Kerwin, John Boyce, George O'Donnell, James Moran, Jerry Murphy, and Anthony Wiedemeier.

Mrs Bowler was the former Catherine O'Donnell. She was born on March 17, 1860 in county Kerrey, Ireland and was the daughter of John and Mary O'Donnell.

She came to American in 1879 and soon afterwards came to Carroll where she became the bride of Maurice Bowler. The ceremony was performed in St Joseph church by Rev Father Urbany. Mr Bowler held a position with the Chicago and North Western railroad and worked for the company until his death a number of years ago.

Mrs Bowler had been a resident of CarRoll since her marriage. Surviving include one daughter, Mrs A.W. Howell (Mary) of Omaha; three sons: John J Bowler of Maywood, CA; Maurice and William Bowler of Carroll; and four granchildren.

She is the last member of her family to pass away. Her parents, brothers, and sister died in Ireland. Mrs Bowler was an active member of St Joseph church and also belonged to the married ladies sodality.

Those from a distance who expect to attend the funeral services Saturday will be: Mr and Mrs A.W. Howell and family and Mr and Mrs Maurice Griffin of Omaha; Mr and Mrs John P Bowler, Mrs James Griffin, Mrs Walter Frampton, all of Council Bluffs; Mr and Mrs Michael O'Donnell of West Side; Mrs John Mallone of Charlotte, IA; Mr and Mrs Mike Foley of Jackson, MN; and Tom Ecwler of Cherokee.
