Oct 1, 1914 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Mary Boos died Friday morning, September 25, at about 2 o'clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Laughlin in this city. The immediate cause of death was an affection of the heart, but an important contributing cause was the great age of the deceased, who had passed the ninetieth anniversary of her birth.

Mrs. Boos, whose maiden name was Kreuer, was born March 4, 1824, in Germany, where she grew to womanhood and was married to John Boos. Ten children were born to them, the oldest, Michel, being born before they left Germany for this country. They came to the United States about 1850, making their first settlement in Utica, N.Y. Later they moved to Madison, Wisconsin., then to Stearns county, Minnesota, and in 1875 came to Carroll county. Here they made their home on a farm south of Templeton in Eden township.

The husband died in 1878 or 1879. About twenty years ago, Mrs. Boos came to Carroll and since that time has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Laughlin, in whose home death took place. Seven children are living, their names and places of residence being as follows: Mrs. Joseph Laughlin; Michael Boos, Anamosa; Dr. C.M. Boos, Kansas City; Peter Boos, Fulda, Minnesota; Jos. P. Boos, Kansas City; Mrs. Chas. Wilkins, Hedrick, Iowa.

One child died at the age of seven. The oldest son died 8 or 9 years ago and Mrs. Julia Macke, a daughter, died in 1893. There are 59 living grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren and at least one great-great-grandchild.

At the funeral that was held on Monday at SS. Peter and Paul's church, all of the living children were present. The pall bearers were five grandsons and the husband of one of the grand-daughters, their names being Michael Macke, Jos. Macke, William Macke, Chas. Macke, Edward Boos and Lawrence Schwenk. Burial was made in the cemetery of SS. Peter and Paul's church, of which the deceased was a faithful member.
