June 26, 1929 - Carroll Times - Fred Belterman, resident of this city from 1882 until December, 1928 died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Burwell at Boone on Sunday morning, June 23, 1929 at 9:15 o'clock.

He had been in poor health for several months. Two weeks ago his condition became much worse, and he failed rapidly. His body was shipped from Boone to the home of his nephew, Theodor Simons of this city. Funeral services were held at Carroll Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock, at the SS Peter and Paul church, Rev. Father L. Schenkelberg officiating at the requiem mass. Burial was made in the parish cemetery beside his wife who died March 28, 1925.

Mr. Belterman was born at Qualburg, Kries Cleve, Germany, October 6, 1845, and grew to manhood at the place of his birth. In 1870 he was married at Essen, Germany, to Miss Adelaide Jansen. He worked the mines at Essen and lived there years following his marriage, the family coming to America in 1882.

They located in Carroll, Ia., where he found employment at the Chicago & North Western Railway. Mr. Belterman continued in the employ of this company until he reached the age of 70, when he was pensioned. Mr. Belterman was a devout Catholic, and died fully fortified with the Last Sacraments of the church.

He was a lover of nature and found great enjoyment in the cultivation of beautiful flowers, which he raised a profusion of colors and variety, at his home. Mr. Belterman lived an honest worthy life, enriched by his sincere faith.

Surviving are his daughter, Mrs Elizabeth Burwell, one granddaughter, Mrs. Stella Jackson, and one great-grandson, Robert, all of Boone. Attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Elizabeth Burwell, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Jackson and son Robert, and Mrs. Taylor of Boone and Mr. and Mrs. Leo J. Simons, of Ogden.
