Jan 30, 1929 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Ferdinand Becker died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.E. Hoffman, Monday morning, January 28, 1929, following an illness with bronchial trouble and complications with which she was bedfast scarcely more than a week. Mrs. Becker had not been in good health, however, for the last two years.

Mrs. Becker, as Antionette Wilhelmiene Van der Grinten, was born in Essen, Germany, April 7, 1845. She received her education in the old country and was married at Essen Aug. 21, 1877 to Ferdinand Becker. Seven years later in 1884, Mr. and Mrs. Becker came to America, locating in Carroll, where they established their home and lived until their deaths. Mr. Becker was a barber in the old country and followed his trade in Carroll.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Becker, three boys and two girls. A boy, Ferdiand, and a daughter, Elizabeth, died infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. J.E. Hoffman, Carroll, Ia.; A.F. Becker, Hollywood, Calif.; and F.H. Becker, Carroll, Ia.

After the death of Mr. Becker, September 3, 1920, Mrs. Becker made her home with her children. She was a gentle woman, very devoted to her children, who loved her dearly. When younger she was an active member of the SS. Peter and Paul's church and could be depended upon to do her share of any church work. She died fully fortified with the last rites of the church in whose teachings she found much strength, especially during her declining days.

She was a member of the Christian mothers society of the church. Funeral services were held this morning, January 30, at the SS. Peter and Paul's church, and burial as made in the Catholic cemetery beside her husband. The pallbearers were Joseph Fischer, Frank Rupiper, George Masching, Will Pietig, Anton Hugeback, and Anton Klocke.

Fred Becker of Fonda, a nephew, attended the funeral. A.F. Becker of Hollywood was unable to attend because of illness.
