April 20, 1927 - Carroll Times - George F. Beberger, retired druggist of this city, passed away at the St. Anthony hospital Saturday afternoon, April 16, at 2 o'clock after an illness extending over a period of several months. He entered the St. Anthony hospital for treatment early in January and while he was not bedfast all the time, his illness was of such a nature that it was seldom he was able to make a visit in the downtown district, much as he would have liked to do so. For several years he was a suferer with heart disease. This with other complications was responsible for his death.

Mr. Beberger was born at St. Mary's, Pa., December 27, 1851, and came to Carroll when 28 years of age to enter the employ of J.W. Haton, leading druggist of that day. He was in the employ of Mr. Hatton for 21 years. During the two following years he enjoyed a vacation before entering the drug business on Main street, which he sold six years ago to Wilke-Stratemeyer.

As a business man, Mr. Beberger was very successful and acquired a large estate, which he has bequeathed to his nephew, Joe Beberger of Canada and his four nieces, Mrs. Margaret McSparrin of St. Mary's, Pa.; Mrs. Anna Hentrich of Chatsworth, Pa.; Mrs. Susie Paradee of Fairfax, S. D., and Mrs. Julia Henle of Montrose, S.D.

He was both a stockholder and director of the Carroll County State bank. Mr. Beberger never married and with the exception of his nephew and nieces has no other relatives. He always had a fondness for children and many men of today have pleasant recollections of their childhood visits at the store of Mr. Beberger, where he was never too busy to pass some time with them. A few years ago Mr. Beberger made a trip to Europe which he enoyed greatly but was glad to return to his native land and to Carroll, his home town.

He had many close men friends whose friendships he valued highly and whose visits were a great pleasure to him when he was a patient in the hospital. A few months ago he expressed a wish to return to the faith, which had been his in childhood and in which faith both his parents died. At the time of his passing he was a member of the Catholic church and died fully fortified with its last rites.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock at the SS Peter and Paul church and burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank J Rettenmaier, Frank Goecke, J.P. Hess, I.A. Hoffman, C.E. Reynolds, and J.P. Bernholtz. Three of his nieces came to attend the funeral; Mrs. Anna Hentrich, Mrs. Susie Paradee, and Mrs. Julia Henle.

During his illness his nieces, including the one in St. Mary's, Pa. made him visits which he enjoyed greatly.
