MRS. THERESA OCKEN

Requiem mass for Mrs. Theresa Ocken, 72, will be read at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Lawrence Church, Carroll. Her brother-in-law, the Rev. A. H. Ocken of Mapleton, will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Arcadia.

Mrs. Ocken, formerly of Maple River, died about 9:50 a.m. Oct. 21 at St. Anthony Nursing Home, where she had been residing.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Tuesday. The rosary will be recited at 8 and 8:30 P.m. Tuesday; at 3, 5, 8, and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the 5 p.m. recitation being by members of the Legion of Mary.

Mrs. Ocken, daughter of John and Theresa Dentlinger, was born at Arcadia June 17, 1891. She lived at home until her marriage to John Ocken on Feb. 7, 1914, at St. John’s Church, Arcadia. The late Fr. Shulte performed the ceremony. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Arcadia and in 1920, moved to the Maple River Community. They retired in 1953 and moved to Carroll. Mr. Ocken died March 17, 1955, and she continued to live in Carroll.

She was a member of St. Lawrence Church, the Ladies Guild of the parish and the Legion of Mary.

Surviving besides her nine children, one brother and two sisters are 57 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, twin sons in infancy, a daughter, Margaret; her parents; three brothers, Frank Dentlinger, the Rev. Otto Dentlinger and Joe Dentlinger, and two sisters Sr. M. Teresiner (Margaret) and Mrs. Frank Lutwitze.

Note from transcriber: The obituary calls Mrs. Ocken "Theresa" however, family records indicate her name was "Theresia."
