Head Badly Cut and Three Ribs Fractured Besides Other Injuries
_________
Mattes Strunk, a farmer living on the Daniel Davis farm, west of Coon Rapids and near Dedham, was struck by passenger train No. 26 Wednesday morning when about midway between Coon Rapids and Dedham. He was walking on the track as the train approached him from behind. The train whistled to warn him of his danger. Strunk appears to have heard the warning and partially stepped off the track, possibly he thought out of the way of the train which struck him, knocking him to one side, cutting a long gash in his head and bruising his body considerably. No 26 brought him to town, a message having been sent ahead asking that a doctor be called. Agent Kinser summoned Dr. Henry, the road physician, at once. The patient was conveyed to his hospital where the wounds were dressed and in the afternoon the patient was taken to his home. The doctor fears that Mr. Strunk is seriously injured internally, says that three ribs are fractured and believes the back and kidneys are also hurt. No. 26 is the flyer and was running no doubt at great speed when it struck the unfortunate man. Trainmen say that the engineer blew his whistle strenuously but at the sped the train was going it was impossible to stop it before the accident occurred, Mr. Strunk being slow to leave the track.
