For the past eight years, Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Tryon and family made their home with her; and Mrs. Tryon had cared for Mrs. Knepper during her last illness. The body is at the Huffman Funeral home where it may be viewed by friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home and interment will be in the city cemetery. Mrs. Knepper had been a resident of Carroll for more than 54 years. She was born on March 7, 1851, in Johnson county, Ia., the daughter of Henry and Marie Nicholson. Her maiden name was Henrietta Nicholson. Mrs Knepper spent her girlhood in that county and after growing to womanhood attended Coe college in Cedar Rapids and later taught school in Linn county, Ia.
On May 12, 1869, while still living in Johnson county, she became the bride of William S. Knepper. Mr. Knepper had been engaged in mercantile business at Solom, Johnson, county for four years, after which he and his wife came to Carroll county. He bought 240 acres of land in Maple township, four miles west of Carroll, and lived there five years. In 1881 they came to Carroll and in 1902 built a home on the corner of Ninth and North Carroll street; which is now occupied by the William R Macke family. Mr. and Mrs. Knepper operated a boarding house there.
Mr. Knepper had been active in all affairs of the town and he and his wife were prominent socially here for many years. Mr. Knepper took a great interest in church work and was an active member of the Methodist church as well as the various church societies. Mr. Knepper passed away on May 9, 1922. Eight years ago the Tryon family decided to make their home with Mrs Knepper.
Mrs Knepper had been real well despite her advanced years until two years ago. Each day she would take a walk about the business district, stopping to chat with her many friends, both old and young.
Mr. and Mrs. Knepper had two children, a son and a daughter. The son, William Walter, died at several years age. Their daughter, Mrs. (Catherine) Leo Palmer, resides in Colorado Springs, Colo. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mae McKain of Des Moines, a brother in Hot Springs, Ark., and several grandchildren.
Mrs. Knepper received a great deal of pleasure out of traveling and during her life took many trips. The daughter will be unable to attend the funeral but two of the grandchildren, who live in Omaha, are expected to be here.
