Oct 30, 1929 - Carroll Times - Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Delaplane funeral parlors for Frank O'Brien of Alaska, who died in the Seattle hospital Friday, October 25, 1929, after an illness of several months. Rev. H.C. Schneider, pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducted the services. Burial was made in the Carroll cemetery beside his wife.
For over twenty years Mr. O'Brien was in the hotel business in this city, being identified with the City Hotel, which he built. The family left Carroll for Albion, Nebr., when Mrs. O'Brien's health began to fail. She died 26 years ago. Mr. O'Brien will be remembered in Carroll as a popular, congenial, prosperous man, much interested in good horses, and he always drove a high stepping team.
Frank O'Brien was born at Bath, Ontario, Canada December 26, 1851. He came across the border as a young man, locating in Michigan. He married Laura Mosher and three children were born to them. One died in infancy; the son, Frank, died in Seattle in 1912. One daughter, Winnie, Mrs. H.S. Young, survives.
Since the death of his son, Mr. O'Brien made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Young, moving with them to Alaska in 1916. They first located at Kenai and for the last two years have lived at Seldobin. Mr. O'Brien was taken to a Seattle hospital two months ago. Mrs. Young is the only immediate relative. She accompanied the body of her father to Carroll, reaching the city last evening.
