July 8, 1948 - Carroll Times - Committal services were held at the Carroll cemetery at 3:30 yesterday afternoon for Miss Grace Dowd, formerly of Carroll, who died July 4 in Indianola after a long illness. The Rev. Robert M. Peters, minister of the Methodist church, officiated at the graveside rites. Pallbearers were H.W. Stratemeyer, Arthur J. Graham, H.C. Rawhouser and L.E. Sweany. Rites were held in the First Baptist church, Indianola, yesterday morning, with the Rev. Charles Mosher officiating.

Miss Dowd, 69, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Dowd, early day residents here. She was born June 13, 1879, in Jasper county, Iowa. She graduated from Carroll high school in 1900. For many years Miss Dowd, who was a registered nurse, served on the nursing staff of the government hospital at Grass Lodge, Mont.

During the past fall and winter, she made her home here with Mrs. J.N. Traner for several months. She returned from Carroll to the home of her niece, Ruth Sherer, in Indianola. Miss Sherer, daughter of Miss Dowd's deceased sister, Margaret, attended the rites here yesterday. Miss Dowd was the last of a family of four children. She had a brother, Clyde, and sister, Bertha, besides her sister, Margaret.
