Jan 22, 1925 - Carroll Times - Mrs. George N. Dowd passed away at Indianola, Ia., Sunday, January 8, 1925, after being indisposed for several weeks. Her death occurred suddenly from what is believed to be a neuralgia pain which attacked the heart. Funeral services will be held in this city this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church and will be conducted by Rev. F.G. Codd.

Mrs. Dowd, nee Josephine Thompson, was born in Alleghany, Pa., December 24, 1845. At about 12 years of age she moved with the family to Iowa, where they settled in Jasper county. She lived there until her marriage to George Newton Dowd in 1866. After her marriage they lived in and around Des Moines for a number of years, moving to Carroll in 1880, where the family resided for more than 30 years.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dowd: Bertha M. Dowd of Des Moines; Clyde W. Dowd of Lewiston, Mont.; Mrs. A.J. Barnett of Indianola, Ia.; and Grace Dowd of Crow Agency, Mont.

Mr. Dowd died while the family lived in Carroll, having preceded his wife by 16 years. Mrs. Dowd has spent her time with her children since leaving Carroll, being in Montana part of the time. The past few years she has been with Mrs. Barnett at Indianola. She was a devoted mother and friend, always kind and ready to do a service for any one. Converted at the age of 11 years, she joined the Stuidusky St. Baptist church in Alleghany, Pa., and all her life was a consistent christian, living out in her daily walk the religion that carried with her throughout her long life.

She leaves to mourn her loss beside the immediately family, one sister, Mrs. M.E. Shearer of Prairie City, Ia.; and two brothers, A.J. Thompson of Long Bench, Calif.; and H.T. Thompson of Passo Robles, Calif. She also is survived by three grandchildren.
