Sept 7, 1916 - Carroll Times - Little Linda Rose passed away Friday, September 1st., at the home of her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Backes, after a two weeks illness with acute diebetes. The little girl had been rather quiet during the summer, not caring to romp as much as was her custom, but at no time did she feel sick until about two weeks before her death, and nothing was thought of her quiet manner. She was a lovable child and was a favorite with her little friends and also the pride of her mother and grand parents. Had she lived she would have entered the third grade in the public school this fall.

Linda Anna Rose, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Rose was born October 26, 1907. Her father died January 6, 1911 and since that time the mother, Mrs. Bertha Rose and her three children made their home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Backes. Besides the mother and grandparents she leaves to mourn her loss two brothers, Harry and Walter, the folliwng aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. John Backes, Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Truhe, Glidden, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rose, Glidden, Mrs. Win Rose, Arcadia, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rose, Halbur, Mr. and Mrs. William Bruning, Halbur, her great uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schroeder, Wall Lake, and sixteen cousins.

The funeral services were held at the Lutheran church, Monday morning, September 4. The pall bearers were John Rose, Chris Roes, Clyde Meisel, John Reinowski, Carl Damuth and Roy Boehme. The services were so largely attended that the church was too small to accomodate all and scores remained outside.
