Oct 8, 1934 - Carroll Daily - George Selzer 54, died this morning about 9 o'clock at his home at Bluff and Maine Streets. Death was due to Hodgkins disease. Mr Selzer first complained of ill health in April and was under treatment at the Mayo hospital in Rochester, MN in May. He had been confined to his bed about two weeks being under the care of a special nurse.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Selzer home, the Rev Henry C Schneider officiating. Interment will be made in the Carroll cemetery.

Mr Selzer was born in Homestead, Jan 28, 1880 the eldest son of George Selzer and Christine Stumpf. With his parents he moved to Carroll at the age of five and started to school in the south side grade school. He continued his schooling at the north grade building and graduated from Carroll high school. After graduation he entered the employment of the German bank which later became the Carroll county State bank. He was afterwards associated with his father in the wholesale liquor business. In 1908 his father remodeled the property on the location of the present Ley Clothing store and the father and two sons assumed the management of the first combined grocery and meat market in the city known as the Golden Rule store.

In 1911 George Selzer Sr and son Carl withdrew their interests in the store and went into the automobile business selling their interests to George Jr and W.H. Scharnweber. The partnership lasted nine years when Mr Selzer sold out to Mr Scharnweber. Since that time Mr Selzer has been managing the Selzer apartments.

Mr Selzers mother died Nov 14, 1927 and his father died last year Sept 16, 1933. Surviving are his sister, Miss Mayme, and brother Carl.

Mr Selzer was a great lover of the out of doors and was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman. The spacious garden at the rear of his home was proof of his great love of flowers and birds and he had a great fondness for horses.
