Nov 16, 1927 - Carroll Times - Mrs. George Selzer, wife of George Selzer, prominent automobile dealer of this city, died at her home Monday morning, November 14, at eleven o'clock after being in a critical condition since November 4. Her death was due to a complication of diseases. She had been ailing for the last eight years.

Mrs. Selzer, as Christine Stumpf, was born near Buffalo, N.Y., December 11, 1848. Her mother died when Mrs. Selzer was but three years old and was buried in the Colony at Ebenezer, near Buffalo. The deceased was married August 1, 1878 at Homestead, Ia., to George Selzer. In March, 1885 they came to Carroll which has since been their home.

Mrs. Selzer was a splendid woman and raised a family of two sons and a daughter to become influential and useful members of the community. One daughter, Henrietta, died in 1891 when she was nine years old. Home meant more to Mrs. Selzer than any spot on earth and she made it such a happy place that the home life of the family was often commented upon and admired. Her influence for good was also felt through out the city and many kindly acts can be attributed to the thoughtfulness of Mrs. Selzer. She was very philanthropic in caring for the needy and although she did not make public the good she was doing, many needy people were helped through trying experiences, when money was close with them and difficulties were many. With a friendly smile and a pleasant word for every one, she had many friends, although caring little for social functions.

During her entire illness she was uncomplaining and when she suffered strove to hide it from the family, smiling bravely through her siege of illness. Her life was a very happy and contented one and her husband, sons and daughter will have the great satisfaction of knowing that they were largely responsible for her pleasures. She had every luxury that could be wished for, which she thoroughly enjoyed and her family gave her the devoted companionship which is so precious to every mother.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, George and Carl, and one daughter, Mayme. Funeral services will be held at the home this afternoon, Wednesday, November 16, at 2 o'clock, and will be conducted by Rev. A.J. Mueller, of the Lutheran church, who was her pastor during her fatal illness.
