Feb 13, 1946 - Carroll Times - George Jones, 81, died at 8:59 last night at his home, 620 North Carroll street, after a two-year illness which kept him bedfast at intervals. He had been confined to bed for the last week. Funeral services are to be at 1:30 Friday afternoon at his home, with the Ray. John E. Wheatley, minister of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in the Carroll cemetery. The body is being returned to Jones home tomorrow afternoon from the Huffman Funeral home to his residence, to rest there until the hour of the rites.
Mr. Jones came to Carroll in 1925 to live with his sister, Miss Mary Jones, who died Dec. 20, 1941. Since that time, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fox have made their home with him and cared for him during his long illness. Mr. Jones was a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Jones, who settled in Ohio on their arrival in the United States from England in 1856. He was born at Leipsic, Ohio, Oct. 18, 1864, and was only four years old when his mother died. The family then moved to Wisconsin and settled in Readtown.
Before coming to Carroll, Mr. Jones had lived in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Montana, having done railroad work part of the time. He had homesteaded in Montana.
He was the last of a family of eight children, six boys, and two girls. Three brothers died in infancy.
The other brothers and sisters were: William, Thomas, Mrs Sarah Hutchison, and Miss Mary Jones. Mr. Jones belonged to the Presbyterian church and the Odd Fellows lodge. He was a member of Almond Lodge No. 189, I.O.O.F., Clinton, Minn.
