Sept 11, 1919 = Carroll Times - Through the courtesy of Rev. J.P. Lester we publish the following obituary of Miss Ella Todd.

Ella Todd was born in Putman County, Ohio, on Sept. 18th, 1851, and passed away at Carroll, Iowa on Sept. 6th, 1919, lacking but 12 days of being 68 years of age. On Oct. 22, 1869 she came to Carroll County with her people, residing on a farm southwest of this city for a period of about six years, after which she came to Carroll where she has lived for half a century.

She was among that early body of pioneers who saw these western prairies develop into the fertile farms of today. She lived and labored and gave her life and strength to bring forth from the past the splendid life and opportunities of the present.

After the death of her brother, Samuel, on January 16th, 1917, she closed her home and in company with Miss Mary Jones journeyed to Mobile, Ala., and other cities in the South. Last year was spent with relatives in Kansas until she became ill last November when she went to Hot Springs, Ark., seeking to regain her health. This, in the providence of God, she failed to do, but she did however, make sufficient recovery to enable her to return to Carroll on the 9th day of May this year.

Some weeks ago she took a turn for the worse and at last her weary body unable to longer withstand the burden of pain, succumed to the call of death and she has gone the way from whence she shall not return.

The deceased was the last member of the immediate family but leaves to mourn her loss, Miss Mary Jones who has made her home with the Todd family since early childhood and cousins and nieces in Kansas and Ohio. Funeral services were held at the home on North Carroll street on Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.P. Lester of the Presbyterian church.
