Sept 22, 1931 - Carroll Daily - Funeral rites for Mrs. George Fiscus were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the home of her daughter, Mrs Ben Reiff, on North Court street. The services were conducted by the Rev. Henry C Schneider of the First Presbyterian church. Mrs Jack Broderson sang "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" accompanied by Mrs. Carson Summers. Burial was in the city cemetery by the side of her husband, who died Aug 10, 1924. The Pallbearers were John Carpenter and Frank Howard of Council Bluffs, Ira Hulett of Des Moines, David Butler, William Wegner, and Lincoln Farrell.

Nancy Steinberger was born in Urbana, Ohio July 28, 1844 and when a child moved with her parents to a farm in Marshall county, IA. She married George Fiscus Nov 10, 1867 and they made their home on a farm in Audubon county, later moving to Carroll which was their home for 37 years. The last six years Mrs. Fiscus made her home with her daughter, Mrs John Carpenter in Council Bluffs.

Ten children were born to this union. Harvey Fiscus died in September 1907, and a daughter Dulcena died in 1902. Those surviving are: John Fiscus of Harvard, Illinois; Albert, Ernest and Ursel Fiscus all of Council Bluffs; Mrs Frank Howard of Council Bluffs; Mrs Charles Hornstein of Beardsley, MN; Mrs John Carpenter of Council Bluffs; and Mrs Ben Reiff of Carroll. She also leaves a sister, Mrs Will Cowell of Marshaltown; 17 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Mrs Fiscus had been a sufferer with arthritis for a year and died Sunday afternoon at 5:20. She was a member of the Church of God. All the children, with the exception of Mrs Howard and Mrs Hornstein, were present at the funeral.
