July 3, 1939 - Carroll Daily - Death claimed Mrs. Anna Katherine Fritz, oldest member of Carroll's pioneer families, at her home on North Main Street at 3:20 Saturday afternoon at the age of ninety-two. In the passing of Mrs. Fritz a life closely intertwined with that of Carroll and Carroll County has come to a close. She had lived in Carroll County for sixty-four years.

Mrs. Fritz's death followed a long period of ill health. She had been bedfast at her home for the last three and one-half years, having been confined to bed since Dec. 16, 1935. For two years prior to that time she had been in a wheel chair. The body was taken Sunday evening from the Huffman Funeral Home to the family home on North Main Street, where it will rest until Tuesday morning, when it will be returned to the funeral home.

Services, with the Rev. R. J. MacDanel, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating, will be held at the Funeral Home at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be in the Carroll Cemetery. Mrs. Fritz, only child of Theodore and Maria Spooner, was born Anna Katherine Spooner at Bascom, Ohio, March 1, 1847. She attended school at Bascom and remained in the state of her birth until she came to Carroll County.

At the age of twenty-one she became the bride of Michael Fritz, the ceremony taking place at Sandusky, Ohio, July 30, 1868. Mr. and Mrs. Fritz came to Carroll County from Ohio in the spring of 1875 to make their home on their farm in Pleasant Valley Township. They lived on this farm until their retirement in 1900, when they moved into Carroll, which has been Mrs. Fritz's home since that time. Her husband died July 10, 1914.

Mrs. Fritz was a member of the German Reformed Church, which she joined in her childhood in Ohio. In her younger days she took an active part in church work. She was a charter member of the Carroll Daily Herald and Carroll Times Three-Quarter Century Club.

Mrs. Fritz is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.W. Sievers (Clara) of Arcadia and Miss Maude Fritz, at home, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one half-sister, Mrs. Alice Flege of Los Angeles, and one half-brother, Jacob Stalber of Canton, Ohio.

A daughter, Mrs Will Fritz, of Fergus Falls, MN preceded her in death by only three weeks, having passed away June 11, 1939. Mrs. Fritz was also preceded in death by three step-sons, James Fritz, Carroll; William Fritz, Osawatomie, Kan.; and Samuel Fritz, Tiffin, Ohio.
