Oct 2, 1940 - Carroll Daily - Funeral services for Mrs. Eddie Caliboso of Chicago, formerly of Carroll who died Saturday afternoon on her way to a Chicago hospital after being knifed in her apartment by a man whose motive was believed to be robbery, will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at the Huffman Funeral home. The body was brought here from Chicago Tuesday night and is resting at the funeral home until the time of the rites. The Rev. R.J. MacDanel, minister of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate at the services, which will be followed by burial in the Carroll cemetery.

According to Mrs. Caliboso's brother, John Crandell of Boone, who went to Chicago upon receiving word of her death, Mrs. Caliboso was packing in her apartment Saturday, preparatory to leaving for Florida, when a man entered through the unlocked door, slashed her with a knife and stole $100. Mrs Caliboso crawled down three flights of stairs to get assistance. She was then started on her way to the hospital, but her death occurred before she could reach there. Mrs Caliboso was home alone at the time she was attacked, as her husband is employed at Crystal Lake. Mr Crandell also stated that the murder suspect, who later tried to commit suicide, is now in the Bridewell Hospital in Chicago.

Mrs. Caliboso, who was twenty-eight years old, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crandell, who lived for thirteen years on the Salinger farm in this county. she was born Violet Crandell Dec 2, 1911 in Carroll county.

The Crandell family moved from the Salinger farm to Auburn in 1928, and from there to Boone, one year later, having resided at Boone since that time. Mrs Caliboso had lived in Chicago for about seven years.

Surviving with her husband and her parents, Mr and Mrs Charles Crandell of Boone, are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs Clyde Cooper, New Lisbon, WI; Mary, who is married and lives in the state of Washington; Mrs George Hagaman, Mrs Alice Davis, Mrs. Dorothy Germer, Joseph, John, and Wayne Crandell, all of Boone; and Morgan Crandell of Chicago.

Mr. Caliboso is coming to Carroll from Boone, where he stopped at the home of his wife's parents on his way here from Chicago.
