Lucy Elizabeth Walden 1863-1945

April 28, 1945 - Carroll Times - Death came to Mrs. W.J. Walden, well-known Carroll resident, at 1 o'clock this morning at the St. Anthony hospital after a six weeks illness. She had been at the hospital since March 26. Mrs. Walden would have been 82 years old May 8. Funeral services are to be at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Huffman funeral home, with the Rev. John E. Wheatley, minister of the First Presbyterian church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Carroll cemetery beside her husband, who died Dec. 30, 1952. The body is resting at the funeral home until the time of the services. With the exception of a few years in Des Moines, Mrs. Walden had lived in the Carroll community since 1903.

She was Lucy Elizabeth Manville, daughter of Isaac Newton and Elizabeth White Manville, May 8, 1863 at Lyons, Clinton co, Iowa. Her father was a native of New York and her mother of Finchback, Lincolnshire, England. She continued to reside at Lyons until her marriage to Mr Walden, which took place there May 8, 1881. Mr & Mrs Walden lived at DeWitt and Logan before locating in Carroll. Mr Walden served the Chicago and North Western Railway company as station agent at the various places of their residence besides Carroll, where he held the post for many years.

Mrs. Walden leaves two daughters and two sons: Miss Myrtle Walden, at home; Mrs Jud Forbes (Ethel) Walnut; William N Walden, Des Moines; and George D Walden, Carroll, all of whom were with her when she passed away.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs Earl Schmitz of Clinton. Four sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Mrs Walden belonged to the First Presbyterian church and the Woman's Association of the congregation. She was also a member of the D.M.C. club and the Daily Times Herald Three-Quarter Century club.
