June 30, 1944 - Carroll Times - Mrs Tobe Janssen, one of Carroll's oldest residents, succumbed at her home 329 East 6th street, at 5:30 this morning. Her death was caused by frailities attendant on her advanced age. Mrs. Janssen who was 90 years old, had been bedfast since early in May. The body is being returned at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from from the Huffman funeral home to the family residence, to rest there until the time of the rites. Short services at the family home at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon will be followed by final rites at St. Paul's Lutheran church, with the Rev. A.O. Bleeke officiating. Burial will be beside her husband in the family lot in the Carroll cemetery.

Mrs. Janssen, born Anna Sophia Ahrens, Oct. 25, 1853, in Oldenburg, Germany, came to the United States at the age of sixteen years. She located at Sterling, Illinois, where she lived for four years. She came to Carroll county in 1873, and on March 28 of that year she married Tobe Janssen, the ceremony taking place at the Janssen homestead northeast of Carroll. Mr. and Mrs. Janssen resided on the old homestead for twenty-five years. They then retired and moved into their property on East Sixth street which is still the family home.

Mr. and Mrs, Janssen had one son, Henry Janssen, who died in 1935. Mr. Janssen passed away in 1921.

Surviving are three grandchildren: Mrs. C.H. Kraemer, Onarga, Illinois; Mrs. Elmer Onken, Carroll; and Albert Janssen, Carroll; and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Janssen's only brother, Ulrich Ahrens, died many years ago. Mrs. Janssen, who was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran church. She was the oldest member and also a charter member of the Ladies Aid society of the Church.
