June 30, 1921 - Carroll Times - Tobe Harms Janssen who suffered a stroke of paralysis last week, died at his home Sunday evening as a result of the stroke. Funeral services conducted by Rev. A.J. Mueller, were held at the church yesterday afternoon at two o'clock.

He was born at Hattersum Aurich Ostfriesland, Germany, February 27, 1854, and came to America in 1870. He settled in Sterling, Illinois, where he lived two years, coming to Sheridan township in 1872 and purchasing a farm. His marriage to Miss Anna S. Ahrens took place March 28, 1873. They have one child, Henry, living in Sheriday township. Mr. Janssen has lived in Carroll in his present home on East Sixth street for the past twenty-four years.

He was one of the founders of the Lutheran church in Sheridan township and had he lived until next year he would have celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of that church. He has been an active member of the Lutheran church in Carroll and has always been numbered among its best and most influential citizens.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, his son, and his son's wife and three children, two brothers, two sisters and many other relatives and friends.
